The world of K-pop survival shows is about to level up. Mnet has officially confirmed the premiere dates of its groundbreaking new series “BOYS II PLANET”, which promises a fresh and ambitious approach to the idol audition format.
Following the global success of “Boys Planet” in 2023, this new installment expands the universe—literally and figuratively—with a unique, twin-production concept that fans around the world are eagerly awaiting.
A First-Ever Twin Global K-Pop Project
“BOYS II PLANET” isn’t just a sequel—it’s a revolution in K-pop survival programming. For the first time in the genre’s history, the show will split into two fully produced and broadcast audition programs, one in Korean and one in Chinese, reflecting the growing global nature of the K-pop industry.
Both versions, titled “BOYS II PLANET K” (for Korea) and “BOYS II PLANET C” (for China), will air back-to-back in mid-July, with Planet K premiering on July 17 and Planet C following on July 18.
These shows will follow the same format and concept—meaning contestants in both regions will undergo a parallel journey of challenges, training, and performances—with each ending in the debut of a brand-new idol group.
This marks the industry’s first coordinated twin-debut project, where two groups will launch under a unified concept while catering to different linguistic and cultural audiences.
A Teaser That Reignites the Universe
The teaser video released on May 13 sets the tone for what’s to come. Fans of the original “Boys Planet” will feel a sense of nostalgic familiarity, as the teaser returns to the vast space-themed visual style that defined the earlier season.
In this clip, a radiating sun symbolizes the beginning of the new journey, while two glowing planets—Planet K and Planet C—race toward it, representing the ambition and passion of the trainees who dream of stardom.
This imagery underscores the central theme of the show: different paths, same destination.
Regardless of the country or language, these aspiring idols share one goal—reaching the spotlight at the center of the K-pop universe.
Global Aspirations, Local Roots
By producing content in two languages with regionally focused training and judges, “BOYS II PLANET” seeks to tap into the global K-pop fanbase while staying authentic to each local culture.
The show is expected to feature trainees from various backgrounds and agencies, as well as industry veterans and mentors who will guide them through vocal, dance, rap, and performance challenges.
There’s also buzz that Kim Jun Seo from the boy group WEi may join the show as a contestant, adding intrigue and anticipation among fans.
Where to Watch?
While fans count down to the July premieres, they can catch up on the original series “Boys Planet”, which is currently available for streaming on Viki.
The original show helped launch popular rookie group ZEROBASEONE (ZB1) and became a fan-favorite for its high production values and emotional storytelling.
