In a major turning point for both artist and fandom, Hui, the leader and main producer of boy group PENTAGON, has officially ended his exclusive contract with CUBE Entertainment after nine transformative years.
The announcement, made on July 16, 2025, marks the end of an era—one that Hui helped define through his artistry, ambition, and irreplaceable role within both the group and the broader K-pop landscape.
CUBE’s Official Statement: Gratitude and Support
CUBE Entertainment shared a formal statement expressing its appreciation for Hui’s dedication since his debut in 2016.
The company highlighted Hui’s dual legacy as a powerful vocalist and prolific producer, acknowledging his consistent pursuit of musical innovation.
“Since his debut as the leader and main vocalist of PENTAGON in 2016, HUI has continuously impressed with his outstanding musical talent and passion… Although our exclusive contract has come to an end, CUBE Entertainment will continue to provide full support during HUI’s recovery from his injury.”
Notably, CUBE confirmed their continued involvement in Hui’s ongoing recovery from a recent nose injury, which he sustained while filming JTBC’s “The Gentlemen’s League 4.”
Despite the contract termination, the agency reassured fans that Hui’s well-being remains a priority.

Hui’s Journey with PENTAGON: Artist, Leader, Visionary
Debuting with PENTAGON in October 2016, Hui quickly established himself not only as the group’s centerpiece but also as a force in K-pop music production.
His extensive songwriting and production credits include hits such as:
- PENTAGON’s breakout track “Shine”
- Wanna One’s “Energetic”
- Produce X 101’s theme song “X1-MA”
- And numerous B-sides across the Cube and K-pop ecosystem
As a main vocalist, Hui brought emotional depth and technical prowess to PENTAGON’s diverse sound.
As a leader, he unified members with wildly different backgrounds and creative personalities.
And as a producer, he became one of the rare idols who shaped not just his group’s identity but also contributed meaningfully to K-pop’s sonic evolution.
His performances on “Produce 101 Season 2”, “Road to Kingdom,” and most recently as a mentor on “B:MY BOYZ” further showcased his versatility, humility, and commitment to cultivating new talent.
What’s Next for Hui?
Although Hui has not yet shared his next career move, all signs point to an exciting new phase of independence.
Whether he signs with a new agency or pursues a solo path as an independent artist and producer, he will be doing so with a track record of success and a clear creative identity.
Given his recent mentor role on SBS’s “B:MY BOYZ,” many speculate that Hui may continue fostering rookies or expanding into music direction and coaching.
Others believe he may pursue more solo music, now unconstrained by agency structures.
And with CUBE confirming its support for his recovery, fans can be hopeful for a healthy return—both physically and artistically.

The Future of PENTAGON
Hui is the seventh PENTAGON member to part ways with CUBE. As of mid-2025, only Hongseok remains officially under the label. Previous departures include:
- Yeo One, Yan An, Yuto, Kino, and Wooseok in October 2023
- Jinho in April 2025
Despite these exits, several members have publicly affirmed their commitment to remaining together as PENTAGON, hinting at the possibility of continuing activities in a non-traditional group structure—possibly similar to what we’ve seen with groups like GOT7 or Highlight post-contract.
While the group’s future remains in flux, Hui’s exit underscores the shifting realities of idol longevity.
Contract expirations no longer mean disbandment, but rather new ways of collaborating—on their own terms.
Fans React: Bittersweet But Proud
The reaction from UNIVERSE (PENTAGON’s fandom) has been emotional but overwhelmingly supportive.
Many fans expressed sadness at seeing Hui officially leave CUBE, while also celebrating his courage to move forward and rediscover his artistry without limitations.
Social media was filled with messages like:
“Thank you, Hui, for being the heart and soul of PENTAGON. Wherever you go, we follow.”
“Nine years of creativity, leadership, and love—wishing you the best in everything that comes next.”
For many, the moment is less an end and more a rebirth—of Hui as a solo creator, and possibly of PENTAGON in a new form.
In the Meantime: Hui on “B:MY BOYZ”
Fans can continue to see Hui in action on SBS’s idol survival show “B:MY BOYZ,” where he serves as a mentor alongside other industry veterans like Jinho (also formerly of PENTAGON), GFRIEND’s Yuju, Lia Kim, and Lee Yoojung.
The show, currently airing on Viki, offers a glimpse of Hui’s passion for teaching and developing the next generation of idols—proving that his influence on the industry will continue, even as he writes a new chapter.
