Park Jin-young, the founder and producer of JYP Entertainment, has been appointed co-chair of the Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange. This newly formed body, established under President Lee Jae-myung, aims to strengthen Korea’s cultural influence worldwide.
He will serve alongside Choi Hwi-young, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, with the committee officially launching this month, as announced by Chief Presidential Secretary Kang Hoon-sik on September 9.
Commitment to K-pop Globalisation
Through his social media, Park Jin-young expressed both caution and determination about assuming the role. “Accepting this responsibility was not an easy decision.
As someone from the entertainment industry, I was worried and hesitant. But K-pop is facing a very special opportunity right now, and I felt it was my duty to help make the most of it,” he shared.
Reflecting on his long journey in spreading K-pop internationally, he recalled milestones such as promoting Korean artists to U.S. record labels in 2003, Wonder Girls entering the Billboard Hot 100 in 2009, and the current global prominence of K-pop in 2025.
“My dream has always been the same—for K-pop to be loved all over the world,” he emphasised.
Strengthening Support for Artists
Park Jin-young also highlighted the importance of policy and institutional support for the entertainment industry.
“I want to help organise areas that need backing so that real, effective support reaches the field. I’ll do my best to create more opportunities for young artists. Beyond spreading Korean culture, I hope K-pop can become a bridge where people around the world understand and connect,”
He explained.
He expressed gratitude toward Minister Choi Hwi-young for sharing this responsibility, noting that it gave him the courage to accept the position.

Significance of the Appointment
Chief Presidential Secretary Kang Hoon-sik underlined the impact of Park Jin-young’s leadership: “Park Jin-young is one of Korea’s most respected artists and has worked tirelessly for the globalisation of K-pop.
With his leadership, Korea can further blossom as a cultural powerhouse while fostering deeper cultural exchanges with the world.”
The Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange is designed to promote Korean culture internationally while integrating diverse global cultures into Korea.
It is part of the government’s broader vision to position Korea among the world’s top five cultural powerhouses, creating platforms for artists and cultural content to reach wider audiences.
Recent Activities and Future Plans
With this new role, Park Jin-young is set to expand K-pop’s global reach through strategic initiatives, policy advocacy, and cultural projects. Fans can anticipate announcements of international collaborations, programs supporting emerging artists, and efforts to strengthen Korea’s position as a global cultural leader.
His ongoing commitment ensures that K-pop will continue to connect people worldwide while highlighting Korea’s cultural influence in the years to come.
