In a highly anticipated casting announcement, veteran powerhouse Kim Yun Seok and beloved star Kim Seon Ho have been officially confirmed to lead the new tvN drama May the Congressman Protect You (working title).
On May 14, 2026, the production team and the actors’ respective agencies confirmed their participation in what is being described as a “soul-alliance project.”
The drama, based on the popular KakaoPage web novel of the same name by Kim Hyun-bin, is set to blend political intrigue with fantasy elements.
According to the production statement:
“Kim Yun Seok and Kim Seon Ho have confirmed their appearance in the new drama, which will bring a fresh sense of catharsis through its ‘same bed, different dreams’ life reset story.”
The series is already generating prestige buzz due to the heavyweights behind the scenes.
It will be helmed by Director Park Shin Woo, who recently took home the Best Director trophy at the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards for Our Unwritten Seoul, and written by Kwon Jong Kwan, the acclaimed screenwriter behind The Price of Confession.
With a premiere scheduled for early 2027, the drama is expected to be a tentpole release for tvN.
A Ghost Politician and a Clueless Avatar
The narrative of May the Congressman Protect You centers on a unique and supernatural partnership.
Kim Yun Seok stars as Gu Young Jin, a “political max-level” National Assembly member who served six terms.
Gu Young Jin was a master strategist who believed that politics was about cold calculation rather than conviction.
However, his career and life ended in disgrace following a corruption scandal.
In a fantastical twist, he returns to the past as a ghost, seeking revenge and a chance to reset his legacy.
Reflecting on the project, Kim Yun Seok shared:

Kim Seon Ho plays the perfect foil to the cynical politician as Cha Jae Rim, a grade-9 civil servant who is completely “clueless” about the world of politics.
Living a modest life with no major ambitions, Jae Rim’s world is turned upside down when he discovers he can see the ghost of Gu Young Jin.
Soon, he finds himself lured into the fierce political arena, acting as the living “avatar” for the ghost politician.
Kim Seon Ho expressed his excitement for the role, stating:
“I am truly honored to be able to work with respected actors on a great project.
I enjoyed the original, the drama script is fun, and the set is enjoyable, so I am already excited to see how the work will turn out.”
High Stakes and Interconnected Stories
The “strange buddy play” between a dead power-holder and a living youth indifferent to power is the heart of the show.
Supporting cast members have also begun to emerge, with Ryu Kyung Soo confirmed for a pivotal role and a special appearance by Ahn Eun Jin, who will play Gu Young Jin’s daughter, Gu Seung Hee.
The production team has hinted that the story will travel back to 1998, following the timeline of the original web novel, to explore the origins of the political corruption Gu Young Jin aims to dismantle.
A representative from the production noted that the drama will highlight “the synergy between Kim Yun Seok and Kim Seon Ho as they race toward the heart of politics.”
As filming gets underway, Kim Seon Ho remains busy across multiple platforms, including his upcoming variety show Bonjour Bakery and the Disney+ series Portraits of Delusion.
Meanwhile, this project marks Kim Yun Seok’s return to the television screen roughly a year after his appearance in the film Virus.
The K-drama community is also tracking several other major developments this week, including Lim Ji Yeon being in talks for the drama Alike and Song Joong Ki’s confirmed return to KBS.
