At the private wedding ceremony of Super Junior’s Ryeowook and former Tahiti member Ari on May 26, Leeteuk of Super Junior drew attention with a light-hearted plea for forgiveness for former member Kangin. This event saw the original Super Junior lineup reunite, with notable attendees including former members Kangin, Han Geng, Kibum, and Henry.
Kangin, who attracted significant attention, announced via Dear U Bubble that he would be joining the fan-communication platform starting on May 28, fueling speculation about his return to the entertainment industry after a prolonged hiatus.
Leeteuk’s comments at the wedding further hinted at Kangin’s comeback. During the reception, Super Junior performed the 2024 version of their hit “Sorry, Sorry.” Although Siwon was absent due to filming commitments, the group performed as an eight-member unit, including Heechul.
Kangin humorously apologized for being late and joined his position in the performance, only to be teased by Eunhyuk and Leeteuk as the song had already ended.
Amid the light-hearted banter, Leeteuk addressed Kangin’s hiatus and eventual departure from the group, stating, “You are meeting Kangin, who has spent more time self-reflecting than being active.” He continued by asking for forgiveness for Kangin, noting his years of self-reflection and urging fans to embrace and support him.
International ELFs (Ever Lasting Friends, Super Junior’s fandom) were more receptive, cheering for Kangin’s potential return to the spotlight.
Kangin’s past controversies include two drunk driving incidents, one in 2009 involving a triple collision, and another in 2016, which severely damaged his image. An assault incident in 2017 further tarnished his reputation.
Kangin left Super Junior in July 2019 amidst the “Burning Sun Gate” scandal, linked to his friend Jung Joon Young, who faced charges of producing and distributing illegal videos.
