Rapper San E and singer MC Mong are entangled in a dispute over unpaid royalties involving singer BE’O during a transition between agencies. This conflict arises amidst conflicting claims, with implications regarding fair compensation during BE’O’s shift from San E’s FameUs Entertainment to MC Mong’s Big Planet Made.
Big Planet Made, MC Mong’s agency, stated on May 14 that San E terminated his exclusive contract with BE’O and transferred the neighboring rights to Big Planet Made for a one-time payment of 209 million won.
This transfer implies that legally, BE’O would belong to Big Planet Made, justifying San E’s responsibility to settle profits earned during BE’O’s time under FameUs Entertainment.
San E, however, hasn’t yet responded to confirm receipt of this payment. Yet, on May 14, San E shared a screenshot on social media of a direct message (DM) purportedly sent by MC Mong.
The message threatened legal action, including involvement from the Fair Trade Commission and the National Tax Service, accusing San E of misconduct with BE’O.
San E explained that BE’O’s mother demanded contract termination due to alleged schedule breaches, denying any contact with other agencies. Big Planet Made countered, accusing San E of avoiding discussions about unpaid royalties while launching personal attacks against BE’O and MC Mong.
They emphasized San E’s delay in sharing profits from the exclusive contract with BE’O despite benefiting from the transfer of neighboring rights related to the artist. Big Planet Made expressed their determination to address what they perceived as San E’s attempts to obscure the legal issues regarding unpaid royalties.
