ASTRO’s leader and main rapper, JinJin (Park Jin-woo), has been officially exempted from South Korea’s mandatory military service due to health reasons, confirmed by his agency Fantagio on June 2, 2025.
Following a thorough physical examination conducted by the Military Manpower Administration, JinJin was deemed unfit for active military duty due to an autoimmune disorder affecting his health.
While the condition does not impair his ability to carry out daily activities, it requires regular hospital visits and ongoing medical management.
Considering the demanding environment of military service, which involves communal living and physical strain, medical professionals advised that such conditions would be challenging for JinJin to endure, resulting in his official exemption.
Fantagio expressed their commitment to prioritizing JinJin’s health while continuing his career activities.
The agency also extended sincere thanks to fans for their ongoing support and encouraged them to look forward to JinJin’s future projects.
JinJin debuted with ASTRO in February 2016, serving a vital role as the group’s leader and main rapper.
Beyond his performance duties, he has been actively involved in music production, contributing to significant releases such as ASTRO’s 8th anniversary single “Circles,” the heartfelt duet “Fly” with the late Moonbin, and his 2023 collaborative track “Wave in My Heart” featuring rapper YUNHWAY.
