Fans of period romances are celebrating a major casting update today as a powerhouse lineup of rising talents has been officially secured for a brand new historical drama.

On June 11, prominent production company ASTORY formally confirmed that actors Chae Won Bin and Kang Hoon will be starring as the main leads in the upcoming production tentatively titled “Secret Love Tales of Suseong Palace” (literal translation).

The announcement has already sparked immense interest across K-drama communities, as both leads have built impressive momentums over the last couple of years with highly acclaimed performances.

Joining them to complete a vibrant main ensemble are promising young actors Lee Ki Taek and Kim Mu Jun, promising a project packed with youthful synergy, complex character dynamics, and intense emotional depth.

Secrets Within the Palace Walls: A Fiction Sageuk of Love and Royalty

Described as a historical romance fiction series, “Secret Love Tales of Suseong Palace” aims to weave an intricate narrative tapestry focusing on the dangerous intersections of affection, hidden identities, and palace politics.

A sageuk (traditional Korean historical drama) at its core, the storyline captures a high-stakes romance built on hidden layers and classified truths that threaten to upend the internal balance of the royal court.

The drama centers heavily around the unexpected bond that forms between an elegant court lady and a burdened crown prince.

The narrative is set against the sprawling backdrop of Suseong Palace, a space historically filled with rigid traditions, unspoken rules, and covert alliances.

As the characters navigate their forbidden feelings, they find themselves entangled in a web of personal and political secrets that will test their loyalty to their positions, their families, and each other.

Character Transformations: Unveiling the Central Court and Royal Lineup

The primary appeal of the production lies in its meticulously sketched characters, brought to life by a fresh-faced cast ready to step into traditional attire:

  • Chae Won Bin will undergo a major transformation to portray Un Yeong, a dedicated and sharp-witted court lady assigned to Suseong Palace. Un Yeong finds herself thrust into the center of a historical whirlwind when she accidentally crosses paths with royal secrets she was never meant to uncover.
  • Kang Hoon takes on the regal role of Yi Hyang, a character deeply rooted in authentic Korean history. Yi Hyang is the eldest son of King Sejong and is destined to step into leadership as the future King Munjong. His character is expected to balance the heavy responsibilities of the crown alongside a deeply buried emotional life.
  • Lee Ki Taek joins the fray as Grand Prince Jinyang, adding a significant layer of narrative tension and romantic rivalry to the unfolding plot.
  • Kim Mu Jun rounds out the principal royal household as Grand Prince Anpyeong, whose presence is set to bring further narrative weight, depth, and political complexity to the broader palace conflicts.

According to ASTORY, the production team is operating on an efficient schedule, with cameras officially set to begin filming this upcoming July.

With the main casting locked in and pre-production entering its final stages, fans are eagerly anticipating the first script-reading photos and character teasers over the coming months.
