Renowned Japanese actress Ryoko Yonekura, 50, has been referred to prosecutors amid allegations of illegal drug use. Reports from major Japanese media on January 20, 2026, indicate that authorities suspect Yonekura of violating Japan’s drug control laws and related charges.

The investigation began in June 2025 when the Kanto–Shinetsu Regional Bureau of Health and Welfare’s Narcotics Control Department received a tip that Yonekura had used drugs with a man identified as A, an Argentine national. Following the tip, officials conducted a preliminary investigation and searched Yonekura’s Tokyo residence, seizing substances suspected to be illegal drugs. The man involved, A, is reportedly no longer in Japan, and authorities continue to investigate the ownership of the seized substances.
