Seungri Faces Scrutiny Over Alleged Southeast Asia Nightclub Plans After Burning Sun Scandal

Last updated:

Former BIGBANG member Seungri is allegedly planning to launch a new nightclub similar to the controversial Burning Sun, this time in Southeast Asia. A recent YouTube video titled “Hwang Hana, Seungri, Park Yoochun Special Exclusive Report by Reporter Oh Hyuk Jin” revealed updates on his activities and associations.

According to reporter Oh Hyuk Jin, Seungri has been connected to money launderers, voice phishing operators, and figures linked to organized crime. He has reportedly been socializing with criminal executives in Cambodia and seeking to develop a club similar to Burning Sun in the region. Oh noted that while Seungri still enjoys popularity in Japan, his reputation in South Korea has suffered significantly. The former idol appears to be leveraging his fame abroad to pursue these business ventures despite his criminal record.

Seungri Travels Southeast Asia Amid Legal History and Potential New Nightclub Ventures

Seungri is said to travel frequently between Cambodia and Thailand, while his visits to South Korea have become sporadic. These developments come years after his central role in the Burning Sun scandal, which forced him to retire from BIGBANG in 2019 and resulted in his expulsion from the entertainment industry.

Legally, Seungri was found guilty by the Supreme Court in 2022 on nine charges, including habitual gambling, mediation of prostitution, violations of sexual crime laws, foreign exchange law violations, embezzlement, and incitement of special assault. He received a prison sentence of one year and six months and was released from Gyeonggi Yeoju Prison on February 8, 2023.

The news of Seungri’s potential nightclub ventures abroad has generated concern among the public and media, as questions remain over whether he intends to continue illegal nightlife operations or maintain a low profile outside South Korean jurisdiction.
