The Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office recently indicted YouTuber A (35 years old, female) for defamation and insults related to spreading malicious content about seven celebrities, including Jang Won-young, via the YouTube channel “Sojang”. From October 2021 to June last year, A uploaded 23 videos containing false information and disparaging remarks about celebrities’ appearances.

A monetized the YouTube channel through a paid membership system, offering four subscription levels ranging from 1,990 won per month to 600,000 won. A’s videos gained traction, amassing 70,000 subscribers and generating 250 million won in profits in just two years, part of which was used to purchase real estate.

Victims, including Jang Won-young, filed complaints against A, leading to a legal battle. In January this year, Jang Won-young won a case against A, who was ordered by the court to pay 100 million won in compensation for damaging her reputation. Despite failed attempts to secure arrest warrants, the court remains vigilant in addressing the impact of A’s malicious activities.
