A South Korean district court has officially handed down a definitive ruling in the harrowing home invasion case involving singer and actress Nana (Im Jin-ah).

On June 9, 2026, the First Criminal Division of the Namyangju branch of the Uijeongbu District Court sentenced a 30-year-old man, identified by his surname Kim, to seven years in prison on charges of specialized robbery resulting in injury.

The high-profile ruling concludes the first trial regarding the terrifying incident that occurred late last year, bringing intense public attention to the bravery of the former After School member and her mother, who directly fought off the attacker to protect themselves.

Late-Night Terror: Details of the Intrusion and Self-Defense Struggle

The incident dates back to November 15, 2025, at approximately 6:00 AM, when Kim broke into Nana’s residence located in Acheon-dong, Guri City, Gyeonggi Province.

Armed with a dangerous weapon, the intruder entered the home while Nana’s mother was sleeping, subsequently threatening both Nana and her mother while aggressively demanding money and valuables to settle a personal fine.

Instead of yielding, Nana and her mother bravely engaged in a fierce physical struggle to subdue the knife-wielding criminal.

Despite sustaining physical injuries during the confrontation, they successfully pinned the intruder down and immediately reported him to the police.

Following his arrest, Kim attempted to evade accountability by filing a malicious counter-complaint against Nana, claiming “attempted murder” over the injuries he received while being subdued.

However, law enforcement thoroughly cleared Nana of all allegations, officially recognizing her actions as justifiable self-defense, while Nana filed a counter-complaint against Kim for false accusation.

Rejecting the Attacker’s Claims: The Court’s Ruling and Nana’s Outspoken Response

During the legal proceedings, Kim repeatedly denied bringing a weapon into the residence, claiming he was the one attacked.

Presiding Judge Kim Kook-sik soundly rejected the defendant’s arguments, citing consistent testimonies from Nana and her mother, as well as digital evidence showing that Kim had researched weapon-related legal consultations online shortly before committing the crime.

Though the prosecution had originally sought a harsher 10-year sentence due to the offender’s distinct lack of remorse, the court settled on seven years, explaining:

“The crime was committed at night, a time when absolute peace should be maintained, with a weapon in possession.

Considering the severity and gravity of the crime, a corresponding punishment is unavoidable.”

The verdict has met with strong, emotional pushback from Nana herself.

Having courageously confronted the criminal during her witness testimony in April- demanding he look her in the eye- the actress publicly voiced her deep dissatisfaction with the sentence on social media.

Highlighting the minimum statutory penalties for aggravated robbery resulting in injury, Nana emphasized that there is “no remorse and no forgiveness” for the perpetrator, strongly advocating that a seven-year sentence is far too lenient given the immense physical and mental trauma inflicted upon her family.
