The K-pop community received concerning news recently regarding the health of Yeji, the leader of the globally popular girl group ITZY.

Known for her powerful dancing and charismatic stage presence, Yeji has been a cornerstone of the group’s high-energy performances.

However, health must always take precedence over the rigors of the idol industry.

JYP Entertainment has officially confirmed that Yeji will be scaling back her involvement in the group’s upcoming scheduled activities to focus on her physical well-being and recovery.

This decision comes as the group continues their highly anticipated “TUNNEL VISION” world tour, highlighting the physical demands placed on top-tier performers.

Medical Diagnosis and Necessary Physical Restrictions

On May 5, 2026, JYP Entertainment released a formal statement detailing the specific reasons behind the shift in Yeji’s schedule.

According to the agency, the artist had been experiencing discomfort in her lower back and sought professional medical advice.

Following a thorough examination at a hospital, it was determined that Yeji is suffering from a herniated disc.

To prevent further injury and ensure a safe recovery, specialists have advised her to “minimize back-straining movements,” which directly impacts her ability to perform ITZY’s notoriously intricate and intense choreography.

In their official English announcement, JYP Entertainment explained the situation clearly:

“Yeji recently visited the hospital because of lower back pain.

Through a thorough medical examination, she was diagnosed with a herniated disc and received a specialist’s opinion that she should minimize back-straining movements.”

Consequently, her participation in the upcoming “TUNNEL VISION” concerts in Japan, scheduled for May 9 and 10, will be limited.

This proactive approach ensures that Yeji does not aggravate her condition while still allowing her to maintain a connection with her fans during this difficult time.

Balancing Artist Will and Long-Term Recovery

Despite the limitations imposed by her diagnosis, Yeji has expressed a strong desire to still stand on stage with her fellow members and greet the fans who have been eagerly waiting for the tour.

JYP Entertainment noted that the adjusted performance plan was developed with Yeji’s own wishes in mind.

The agency stated,

“Even though there may be some limits to the performance, according to Yeji’s active will, she would be participating in the stage as much as possible and meet the fans.”

This reflects the deep commitment Yeji feels toward her audience, even when navigating personal health challenges.

The agency concluded their statement by apologizing for any worry caused and emphasizing their commitment to her health above all else. They noted,

“We sincerely apologize for causing concern to the fans who may have been waiting for her stage and performance. We will do our best to ensure sufficient treatment and recovery, considering the health of our artist as our top priority.”

The K-pop industry is increasingly recognizing the importance of sustainable health practices for artists, and this step for Yeji is a testament to that shift.

Fans worldwide have already begun sending messages of support, wishing her a speedy and complete recovery so she can return to the stage in full health.
